Day 4 of going down the river

Temps last night were not as low as the weather man said, which is a good thing. He did say we would have sunshine too and there was none of that today. Start went well. We are slow getting the auto pilot and the GPS working. They are not talking to each other  yet . The auto guidance on the GPS is working now. We can steer the boat with the auto pilot. When they get working together they will steer the boat down river in the channel.  We got to lock 12 just a behind a barge so during the wait Dave was able to get the outboard motor unplugged, so it is working now again.

While going though lock 12 at Bellevue, Iowa, we learned that Lock No. 19 is currently closed to all navigation.  Emergency repairs are in progress to get the lock back open to navigation. It sounds like it might be open later today. We are set to go though on Thursday so that should be fine. We also found out Lock and Dam No. 21 will be closed to all navigation from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm each day on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 2, 3, 4 and 5 November to remove the existing miter gate leaves and to install 4 new miter gate leaves. That means we will need to get though in the dark Thursday night. I talked to the marina that we plan to stay in tonight, and we will not have water or power and they will be closed by the time we get there. They are leaving us a key so we can shower and get to the restrooms. The restaurant will be open. We made Clinton Iowa by about 4:30. We noticed that the structure that sits on the boat's deck and holds the mast had shifted foward with the big cruiser passing out of  lock 12. We got it back to where it should be and added some more ties. I plan to add a couple more cross members to it tomorrow.

After reaching the marina for the night: We got a good dinner and warm showers. I am feeling lot cleaner. I might ever watch some tv. We have 2 tv/dvd players on board and I brought about 500 tv/movies to watch.

Weather looks to be a good day tomorrow, but rain on Wednesday and cooler.

  2. Hopefully the weeds are giving you a break...can you shed any light on the 'Hare' and their story? Are you still seeing them every day? This is so fun to follow-thanks for doing this! Troy

  3. So what's it going to take to get you to leave your 500 movies behind here? Maybe we can copy them on to another drive. There's one movie theater in Belize City and the Internet is too slow to stream. Name your price :)
